• Biography*: Walter was a professor at Ohio Wesleyan University and a PhD. Walter and Annie lived in Delaware, Ohio and later in Providence, Rhode Island.
  Walter and Annie traveled to Europe in the summer of 1932 and 193 6. In 1932 they returned to New York on board the steamship Manhattan which had made her maiden voyage only a couple of months earlier. She was 668 ft long, could accommodate 1,200 passengers and was capable of 21 knots. During WWII she was renamed the Wakefield and served throughout the war. Since World War II she has remained under government ownership, laid-up in the U.S. reserve fleet.
  In 1936 they returned to New York aboard the more luxuries Cunnard liner Aquitania. The Aquitania was 868 ft long and made her maiden voyage in 1914. She too did war time duty. First as a hospital ship during WW I and as a troopship during WW II. She returned to Cunnard service in 1948. The Aquitania was broken up for scrap in 1950 after having crossed the Atlantic more than 600 times.
