Emma Eliza Bell
F, b. circa 1815, d. 7 August 1854
- Biography*:
On July 7, 1849, the day before her wedding to Thomas C. Hussey, Emma Eliza created a prenuptial trust with the full agreement of her soon to be husband. She assigned to the trust her real and personal property, but retained the right to use or dispose of assets as she saw fit. Included were Tarboro lots number 104 & 105 on which stood her "dwelling house and kitchen". Also included was "one female slave named Judy Hall". This was surely very liberal and progressive for 1849 Tarboro.
On July 13, 1854 she dictated her Last Will and Testament to John H. Mathewon and instructed that her property in trust be divided among her surviving children. Four days later on July 17, 1854 her 13 year old daughter Emeliza died. Less than two weeks later on August 2, 1854, Emma Eliza gave birth to her last child and died shortly thereafter on August 7, 1854. Her infant died two days later on August 9, 1854.
Sometimes spelled Emma Eliza and other times Emeliza, there is considerable confusion about the spelling of her name. Even in her Last Will and Testament it is spelled both ways in different parts of the document. However, in examples of her signature she signed either Emma E. or Emma Eliza. - Birth*: Emma was born circa 1815.

- Father: Marcellus L. Hussey b. 15 Jan 1841, d. 7 Feb 1915
- Mother: Rhoda Williams Johnson b. Jul 1853, d. 28 Jul 1920
- Biography*: Braxton began his professional life as a bank clerk for The Bank of Tarboro. He progressed in his career and in an advertisement run by the bank in early 1909 in the Tarbough Southerner he was listed with the other bank officers as the Assistant Cashier.
But by 1910 he was supplimenting his income working for the Peruvian Guano Corporation of Charleston, South Carolina as a part-time Guano salesman. Guano is the droppings or dung of sea birds and bats. It was a very important part of the development of agriculture in the United States. During the peak of the guano era, drastic steps were taken to maintain a supply for the U.S. farmer. "On August 18, 1856, Congress passed an act to authorize protection to be given to citizens of the United States who may discover guano, under which any citizen of the United States was authorized to take possession of and occupy any unclaimed island, rock or key containing guano. The discoverers of such islands were entitled to exclusive rights to the deposits thereon, but the guano could only be removed for the use of the citizens of the United States." However in 1910, man-made chemical fertilizers had already taken over much of the market.
In 1911 Braxton confessed to defrauding the Bank of Tarboro out of what was then a large sum of money and was incarcerated in state prison. After his release he worked for Porter Brothers Contractors as an Accountant. In 1920 he was working with his brother for the Enterprise Carriage Co.
