- Biography*:
Thomas lived out his life in Hyde County and continued in the family businesses. He was trained by his father as a Cordwainer. He expanded the family real estate holdings and in fact bought and sold considerably more land than his father.
Thomas was a slave owner which was a practice that succeeding Hussey generations would adopt until the Civil War. In 1786 he owned three slaves. When his wife's brother Reuben Bartee died, his property was divided into groupings of the same approximate value. His heirs then drew lots in which "Thomas Hussey draws 1 Negro woman named Jemima valued at $225". By 1810 the number of slaves had grown to eight. - Birth*: Thomas was born circa 1765.
